Hi J.E.-
If you hadn't been so ridgidly uptight in the presents of the great man
and had lowered your eyes to see if his feet were firmly planted on the
ground, you would have noticed; (1) the two of you were standing on an
inclined plane of 15-20 degrees. MacArthur commonly staged meeting in this
manner so he could look into the eyes of scared-to- death subordinates, (2)
he may have been standing on the stomach of a supine soldier who had his eyes
and mouth glued shut to subdue any emotions if MacArthur started stomping or
kicking in anger.
Weintraub notwithstanding, read the record which is fact, not fiction.
Sycophant, schnickophant....harrumph.
