| John,
It's even worse to watch an arty battalion ARTEP with a nuke shot. Saw one in Grafenwoehr back in 1987 which was funny to me (but not them!) They have to get all of their ducks in a row to make a nuke shot, and then evaluators sit around with collimators to measure where and when the simiulator (black smoke) detonates in the air. Well, this battalion got it right and fired a 155mm nuke simulator, but at the same time an 8" battalion fired a TOT Battalion-1 (one round from each of 12 pieces, set for air burst) into the same area. For a split second one could see the black smoke blossom but then it vanished behind all of the white smoke from the eight inchers. The battalion got a flunk which wound up with the 600-lb gorillas (the ones with eagles on their collars) slugging it out for a reshoot! Cookie Sewell AMPS |
