poison pills and needles

 Ron;
Never meant to sound like Nancy Pelozi, or to indicate that I was sure that
it could NEVER have happened ........just that at least in the military it is
so unlikely to make it less likely than Capt Kirk returning thru time and
abducting a white whale!
I have a rather extensive personal library on intel and SpecOps from WWI up
to Desert Storm and I have not read anything about poison pills or poison
needles outside of the early U-2 flights.  I can't speak from experience
about what may or may not have taken place during the KW since I was only 13
when the fighting stopped, but can assure you that my period of service began
in 1956 and I retired in 1983, and as far as the military went, I think I
would have been "issued" a pill on some of my operations but never was.  No
one that I worked with or knew had anything like that presented to them or
knew or even heard of anyone else being issued a pill or threatened with
being exterminated in case the bad guys got through.  And all the thermite
grenades were for the documents! This is not to say that the CIA in it's
early days didn't run around with some pills in their pockets - although
there is no evidence or testimony that the OSS utilized any poison pills for
its agents, (although in WW II it was actually available) ........and in
these past 10 to 15 years where everyone is letting it all hang out and
writing books, I find it difficult to believe that someone wouldn't have by
now blurted it out.......tons of embarrassing material is available now on
CIA operations, much of it thru FAS - Federation of American Scientists
FedAmericanScientists
(certainly not my favorite outfit, but they do have a
good collection of released documents!
) and they would certainly be one of
the first to make anything like that public, even from as far back as the
early 50's!
I refer you to my personal saying that, "there is no such thing as a secret
as long as more than one person knows about it"
..........
If there were any poison pills or needles floating around during the KW, I'd
think MIke Haas or Ed Evenhoe would know about it!
As far as you being BS'd by anyone in authority, well, I'll let someone else
take on THAT one !!!
