As to the desire for alcohol among the troops, Aqua Velvet was the favorite 
after shave  lotion for drinking, as I had a brand new bottle downed by 
someone while I was in the shower, plus it was cheap.

Now, as to the medic's and alcohol, our cooks would bake fresh bread, then 
the medic's after the top and bottom of the loaf of bread was cut off, would 
pour the alcohol into the bread and let it drain out in to a pain.   I was 
told that the bread would purify the medical alcohol. It was them mixed with 
grapefruit juice.  I would not touch that stuff, no matter what they told me.
