The Red Cross was a surprised to me. On 22 February 51, I ended up in the
4th Field Hospital in Taegu and as I was lying on the bunk the next morning,
I see a Red Cross lady with a cart coming down the aisle and going to the men
on the cots. We did not have regular hospital beds. When she came to me, I
saw Hershey bars, gum and things I had not seen since I had left Japan the
first week in January of 51.

After I got I few of the items, it was then I was told, I had to pay for
them. I found it hard to believe that I am in a hospital and have to pay for
a candy bar that I am sure was donated to the Red Cross.

This also told me where all the good stuff was, as it was not on the MLR, it
was in the rear, being sold. Did not see any gum and etc ever again, until
I landed back in Japan in November of 51.
