Attitudes toward the Korean War
Re: rich text. I checked my formatting folks and Outlook Express assures
me it's plain text. I'm afraid I've no suggestions for anyone having
problems with it.
Indeed, statistical evidence should be questioned, as it is easy to
manipulate - and sometimes the questions are simply posed poorly. But then,
all evidence is easy to manipulate to suit a particular bias. Having
drafted a couple of questionnaires I agree that framing questions
appropriately is quite difficult. And of course, all evidence should be
backed up whenever possible. As to the attitudes towards the Korean War -
there is a variety of evidence leading to the conclusion that popular
opinion was ambivalent - contemporary periodicals and personal recollections
are just a couple of them. Surveys are merely one source, and are rarely
ever worthless. While they may sometimes provide only "negative" evidence
they are generally helpful if used critically and intelligently.
