Should one explain misery?  Can it be explained?  We did also rape and pillage in white America.  Didn't a "blue belly" almost rape Scarlet in _Gone with the Wind_? Or did that one slip by too?  I wonder if the author of that book has a horse with blinders as well as a race horse or is like a horse with blinders on, being ridden by an unclean spirit?

On the other hand, I have witnessed rather irresponsible treatment by the Army, but it happened in Germany.  Therefore, I question whether it's racist or human nature of a soldier?  At least we had MPs with our troops, and I don't think racism defines it: it's more a wrong type of self centeredness...
