50 years later you could not sell the truth so the writers make up their own stories, get an ex GI to swear He was there and He has a book to sell. The ex-GI was not even close so I understand, He was not in a combat unit close to the place. It is amazing how much people can remember 50 years later with just a little prompting even with no knowledge of the facts.  I think it is called money or notoriety.
