As a point of observation, if we had a good one sharp on the emerging Red Chinese threat in 1950 he could have provided MacArthur with the requisite insight as to how far he could go without stimulating a certified PLA response to actions in Korea.

Nice thought, but MacArthur seems to have been his own expert who did not
care to listen to dissenters.  Maybe he had a little help from Willoughby on this
one.  Can anyone offer a good source on the MacArthur-Willoughby dialogue
on the potential for a Chinese intervention for the period July-November 1950?
