US, ROK and other UN troops were taking Chinese prisoners from the middle
of October 1950 on. Division and Corps G-2 identified many of thes POWs as
Chinese combat troops but Willoughby insisted these guys were from small
units sent to fight delaying action while the NK Army escaped over border
into China. In fact they were the vanguard of the Chinese forces who were
heading south down mountain trails between the few major MSRs and thus
missed by most UN units who were heading pell-mell for the Yalu. There
were large, large gaps between units because we stayed on the roads.
