Weintraub's book is so laden with factual error as to be severely
compromised. This is a shame, as Weintraub has, in the past, been a better
writer than he shows here. His early work on the correspondence of TE
Lawrence and George Bernard Shaw was truly seminal; his later popular
history on the events of 11 NOV 18 was pretty solid. His book on the
outbreak of World War II, however, is seriously flawed with factual
mistakes, and this one simply drips error.

It is a shame when a good historian passes his use-by date.
