Re: Anthrax in the Korean War

Interesting, John -

According to SK sources, UN forces used some sort of biochemical ("white powder') against NK partisans operating in SK in the Spring-Fall of 1951.  I believe an American vet has confirmed it.

Gen. Choe Hyon was the over-all commander of the partisans, mostly NKPA troops stranded by the Inchon landing in 1950, at the time.   Choe made it back to NK with 2,000 or so survivors and became a national hero of NK.

Choe began his military career when he was about 12, as a messenger boy for Gen. Hong Bum Do (a Korean hero worshipped in South Korea) in China and Siberia.

Kim Il Sung had three lengthy docu-drama films on Choe's life made.  He also devoted two sections on Choe in his memoirs.  I have not seen the films and so don't know if they mention UN BCW in South Korea.

We had a scare of some kind in about March of 1951 when we were issued brand
new gas masks, told to keep them with us at all times, then three days later,
were told to destroy them totally, then bury the remains in a fox hole.
