It still seems to come down to the fact that our troops were immunized against most of the nasty bugs in the Far East and the Koreans and Chinese were not. Even for Viet Nam there was a sequence of 12-15 shots we have to have to cover 9 major disease groups -- typhoid, typhus, smallpox, cholera, plague, yellow fever, and several others which I forget (NO gamma globulin, at least!)  

No matter who does the survey that would seem to be the bottom line -- if everyone except the Yankee is dying of cholera, he must have infected us.
