Re: Carpet Bombing

B-29s out of kadena AB,okinawa, most  had bomb loads of 20,00 lbs all the way to  korea. It would take these B-29s many miles out over the  east china sea to gain there altitude as they turned  to the NNW.
Also the  tarzon were sent to korea from kadena AB on board a special bulit B-29,a good part of the bomb      hanged out of the bomb bay,you can get this info from
http://home.att.net/~immacc91/home.htm
I use to watch these B-29s take-off   from Kadena AB  and it was a site to see, will never forget them.

John2.

B-29s could carry a maximum of about 20,000 lbs for very short range missions, but problem with smaller bombs tends to be bulk more than weight. 20,000 lbs generally meant maximum of 40 x 500 lb GP bombs or more little ones.

Torpedoes were standard aerial ones used during WWII to the best of my knowledge -- no Barnes Wallis trick warheads or drop methods, just line up and launch. AD could carry three but not sure how many they would carry on one mission.

Not sure what the RAZON and TARZON bombs were used on.
