I hitched a ride on a TBM from a small emergency strip near Kosong (East Coast)
in 1951. It was piloted by a "Flying Chief" -- A gold stripe Navy Chief
Petty Officer.
IIRC he told me was from one the carriers (I can't remember which one) and said
the TBM's were used as carrier-to-carrier and carrier-to-land
courier/transportation
aircraft since there was nothing to torpedo. (Just a memory.)
