Army ceremony at Camp Casey marks 2nd Engineer Battalion's Korean War

CAMP CASEY — Under a full moon Friday night, soldiers from the 2nd
Engineer Battalion re-enacted the horror their brethren faced during
the Korean War when overrun by Chinese troops.
It’s probably the only Army ceremony where soldiers line up in the
dark on a chilly parade field. But the ceremony is held nearly to the
exact time of day when the unit burned its flag to prevent it from
capture by the Chinese during the Korean War.
For a couple of weeks leading to Friday’s ceremony, Lt. Col. Nello
Tortora told the story to his soldiers.
"We use the burning of the colors to talk about Army values," said
Tortora, battalion commander. "It’s something to be proud of."
