Sadly, in the absence of any official documents, personal recollections are taken for "facts".  I wonder if any of the Americans mentioned in Kang's article (published by Wolgan Chosun) are still around or anyone here knows any of them.
 
I believe Joseph Goulden's "Untold Story" says that Hans Tofte talked about capturing a Chinese medical supply ship and cutting the Dairen cable, although these events may have occurred after Tofte was recalled.
 
In addition to the Hoyum Unit, there is "Eagle Unit" supposedly under the direct command of Col. Donald Nichols.  The Korean commander of this unit, Kim In Ho, wrote a book about his feats.  Nichols had promised US citizenship to his Korean worker.  Some of these guys are still alive and quite mad at Nichols and America.
