W.E.B. Griffin is a pen name. His real name is William E. Butterworth,. a
very old friend of mine. He is a Korean War infantry combat vet who was
later Gen. I.D. White's stenographer. He went through helicopter school at
Ft. Riley in the late 50s and was at Combat Developments, Ft. Rucker, AL
for a number of years. As a matter of futher information, he also wrote
(under a different pen name) the MASH series.
