Re: Soviet Aircraft Types in Korea

There must some information on the prop to prop fighting.
The N Koreans had a sizeable force and the Russians and Chineses were regularly supplied.
It seems the US also did not want the Navy or Marines to engage the Migs, La's, Yaks.
I get the distinct feeling the USAF wanted the whole battle against the Mig.

It is interesting that the Russia adopped the 37mm.  I guess they really liked the P39 and P63.
BTW.. I cannot get any combat history about the P63 from anywhere.
Would be interesting to see how it did in combat compared to he P39 against the Axis.

Dan,

No, but their pilots had limited overwater skills. They also tended to get intercepted and, like the Soviets, had no SAR capability so the pilots didn't relish the thought of going into the drink.

The 30 November 1951 raid on Cho-Do Island in which their combined Tu-2/La-9 and later MiG-15 force was intercepted and shredded over water is another reason why they weren't real desireous of getting caught out of sight of land, either!
