gentleman, as i somtimes work with one of the teachers at truman
library i have written to him to clarify the letter.
i do have a copy of a letter from a mr. banning to President Truman
about returning his sons medal and which was always in the drawer of
President Trumans desk here in Independence. it is still on display in
his desk drawer in the Truman Office in the
Presedential Library

(text of letter) nursery rd
                                                                  new
canaan

conn.

                    mr. truman,

as you have been directly responsible for the

loss of our son"s life in korea, you might just as
well
keep this emblem on display in your trophy room, as

a memory of one of your historic deeds.
our major regret at this time is that
your daughter was not there to receive the same
treatment as our son received in korea.

                                                                   signed

                                                   (spelled out) william
banning

i have written to the gentleman at the library to get more information
and when i do i will let you all know. pw korea 52-54

Here, here! - Mr. Banning should have cc'd McArthur (on behalf of all of the
soliders sent there in the first few weeks without adequate ANYTHING!)

Regards, Gernilee
