Survival time in the northern Sea of Japan in November is only a few 
minutes unless one is wearing a survival suit.  Even then,  it is not much 
longer so "crashing or bailing out in sight of a destroyer" wouldn't help 
much unless the destroyer was within a very short distance from the crash 
or parachute landing site.
