| Joe, So the numbers would appear, and neither side seems to contest those numbers (does that mean Navy is more honest? 8-) ) There was a good article in an issue of "Military History" four or five years ago on the 18 Nov 52 battle - I think it was one of the destroyermen who vehemently (and with good reason) hated the aspersions cast on his ship. As Ed noted last night, in the sub-50 degree waters your life expectancy is between 4 and 10 minutes, based on your clothing, age, health, etc. The Soviet flight suits were leather and insulated with natural materials like cotton and wool, so don't think they would have made it.
