Re: TANK WARS

As an old tank driver in Korea M-26 tank had the old engine of the M-4, 500 H.P. Ford
water cooled. With all the extra weight added to the M-26 she was to heavy for the engine. Was not able to maneuver very well. [sluggish] So the M-46 they put in a Continental V-12 air cooled the first models had a 750 h.p. Changed that very shortly to 850 h.p. Put in a cross drive transmission our first tank that could turn a 365 degrees in the length of the tank. Then they soup up the 90 mm gun and before the paint dried they had come out with the M-47 which was a Patton also only changed was the turret shape added a range finder. This tank saw no action in Korea they was sent to Germany where the war was going to start we did not need them in a police action. that was Washington thoughts. The tanks we had in Korea was the M -24 Chaffee light,M-4 Sherman easy 8 model medium, M-26 Perishing heavy changed to medium later, M46 Patton medium. Britain had at a tank over there I do not remember any other country
had tanks there
