RE: seek info
Actually the US Government does have access to all the information you are
talking about.
Number of Veterans living and Dead can be accessed.
I have seen requests for new database systems all the time.
A lot of this data was updated over the last 10 years.
This was one of the Clinton Administration agendas was to computerize
manual and modernize older computer systems.
We realized big savings in warehouse space, labor, airconditioning and
maintenance.
The methodology for the older systems is call Frameworks and Components.
Whereby you build a house over a former stable structure.
Statistical Information about this stuff is requested all the time.
Whether you can get it easily is another issue.
It would not be hard to make a Query collecting the data you are seeking.
You may want to contact your Senator or Representative to help.
Our Congresspeople request all kinds of statistical data all the time.
I know the US Senate has a big Oracle database system.
Hope this helps.

Les,
This question is impossible to answer, even by the Veterans Admin. No
federal agency (including the SocSec) maintains a database listing all of
the names of veterans, who's alive, dead, etc.
There are several resources available to assist your search for a VETERAN,
MILITARY PERSON, UNIT/VESSEL or MILITARY BASE/INSTALLATION. If you have any
questions about using the 27 million name/87,000 unit association database,
telephone the Library's Help Desk 1-310-532-0634, 10am to 3pm, Pacific
Time. Use your web browser to view/print the attached reference card.
*********************** ONE:
The worldwide accessible U.S. Military/Veteran Personnel Registry which
contains over 24 million listings. New names/info are added everyday.
Existing names/info are updated as new info arrives. Over 20,000 unit
