Re: Meritorious Unit Commendation
Ron,
The records do not reflect any F-51D shootdowns of Il-10s in June 1951. However, on 20 June 1951 1LT J. B. Harrison of the 67th FBS, 18th FBW was credited with one Yak-9 shot down.
The funny thing is that the PLAAF did not reportly have any Yak-9s at the time -- they had La-9s and La-11s, and MiG-9 fighters. They did use the Lavochkins in combat but not the MiGs as the 9 was considered too slow for combat in Korea.
I hadn't seen anything on a 5th Air Division, but it would make sense (I have the records of the 4th and 6th, both fighter units). Should have had the 13th and 15th Ground Attack Aviation Regiments if they kept the same organization as the rest.
