(EXCERPT) Pacific edition, Tuesday, February 12, 2002

OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea — In February 1951, then-Army Capt. Lewis
L. Millett led what military historians say was the only organized
U.S. bayonet charge since the Civil War.

Millett was awarded the Medal of Honor for his exploits.

On Friday, about 500 U.S. and South Korean soldiers, airmen and family
members gathered at this base to honor Millett, who retired a colonel.

Millett, 82, journeyed to Osan from his California home for the
ceremony.
