RE: US Fighter Pilot Losses in Korea

Do you have any data on the Prop Fighter Bombers regarding sortie by Mustang and Navy planes.
I am wondering about the statement the Mustang was not well suited for Ground Attack.
It seemed to me it did not make a difference and the Migs knocked them all down.

Is ther any data on Mustangs actively dogfighting the Migs.
There was one reference if the Mustangs maintained the dog fight with the Migs they defended well.
If they ran usually got caught and shot up.

Regarding Rock Hudson.. It seemed the Mustang was having a tough time keeping
up with the T28 during the movie.

Dan,

Probably better than that. This accounts for only 690 aircraft losses, and the USAF alone lost 1,729 and the USN/USMC around 1,200 more. Remember that a lot of the KIA came from the bombers - up to 4 in a B-26 (C model) and up to 14 in a B-29.

Still, for all of the flash of the fighter jocks, the guys who really bore the brunt of the Korean war were the piston-engined fighter-bomber pilots, and they took a higher percentage of losses and KIA.
