RE: Rhee and Chaing kai chek

Woohh Useful Idiot is a ver good term.
I get the feeling now the SK Rhee provoked the war as much as NK Kim wanted one too.
I get the feeling they both effectively brought in China, Russia and US and Allies just to secure thier own part of the country.  Another words China, Russia and USA were all suckered into fightig each other.  As it was we were pitching for a fight also.  When is got too costly nobody could pullout gracefully.

Dan,

I concur with Ed. Most of the recent (last 10 years) items I have read on Rhee show that in many ways he served the purpose of what the Communists call a "useful idiot" for MacArthur. The constant claims that he was preparing to invade the north -- sans tanks, heavy artillery, air support,  and most importantly logistics -- make the entire DPRK claim ludicrous.

The main problem here is an agenda that wants to show the US was always wrong and that we were always the villians. That's one of the pushes behind the hard left swerve to "prove" that we always knew what Rhee was up to and that we "ordered" troops to massacre civilians. Both things happened, but the concept of a systemic and commanded acceptance of either one do not merit an answer.
