Hi Dan-

I belong to an organization called "Sirs". We have about 200 active
members and several were Korean war combat pilots, both Air Force and Navy.
We meet for lunch every month and spend a couple of hours telling stories.
None of us have the statistics that Cookie and Diego have but I get the
viewpoint of the guys who were there and doing the fighting.
Every one says that the F-86 was developed to thwart the MiG-15 and that
the Sabres quickly gained air superiority, no doubt about it. Ratio was about
15 to1. They all say that the MiG canon was too slow firing to be effective
and that the .50 caliber guns of the F-86 was far superior for speed. The
MiG-15 canons would tear apart slow flying aircraft. .50 caliber guns were
about 5 times faster than the canons. This overcame the speed and ma
neuverabily of the MiG-15.
They think the Russian pilots would say the same.
