Recently my Bulgarian friend Nikolai sent me excrepts of "Red Devils"
devoted to September 1951, and apparently Lobov was credited with one downed
F-80 on September 12 1951, while he leaded an interception made by the 17
and 523 IAP plus the 176 GIAP. But that thay the Soviets claimed to shot
down not less than 12 F-80s!!! and out of a formation of 150!! Mikhail
Ponomaryev of the 17 IAP leaded the score of the day with 4 F-80 kills. Only
one (actually an F-84E) appears in KORWALD. Due to a probabilistic rule,
Ponomaryev is who had more chances to had been who shot down that single
F-84, so I guess that this F-80 kill is one of Lobov's kills which should be
eliminated as a candidate for a confirmation. It is also interesting that in
such combat the Russians asserted to have 3 MiGs slightly damaged. I had
criticized the USAF habbit to inflate the amount of MiGs engaged in a single
combat and in many cases the amount of kills too, but evidently the Russians
also liked to do so.
