Re: ROKA

Hi, James -

We are all trying to get the facts nailed down.  As you know so much mis/dis info floats around and it is tough to nail down things.

For example, I have been trying to pin down what ROK Navy had to work with when the war broke out.  All I have so far:

1) Song Won Il (a childhood buddy of Kim Il Sung) formed the orginal 'navy'  on 11.11.45.

2) Adm. Song had "several" minesweepers (former Japanese?), 'some' PT boats (4?), 'several' LSTs (3?),  some 'coastal' ships (?), one or two subchasers (USN PC-823 outfitted for more punch - designated ROKN pc-701  Baiktu-san, ROKN had another 'warship' #409 of type?) .

As far as the ROKA is concerned,  the figures range from under 50,000 men to over 100,000 men.  Their equipment included Japanese weapons (machine guns, mortars, and wheeled 'heavy' guns - how many?), US weapons and vehicles including armored cars, etc.

Do you have more precise figures?

ysk
