Ed,
1) A Korean web says a '#509' (it says
'guhn-hahm' = war ship) engaged the enemy on the day war broke out. Do you
know what this ship was or where she came from?
2) An American web on PT boats ("What happened to
our PT boats" - I forgot the exactly URL) says ROKN was given (sold?) 4 PT
boats.
3) How about the 'several' mine sweepers?
Were they in fact coastal/police cutters?
ysk

YS,
Here is a list of US ships funished
ROKN.
Apnok (Frigate,
1950-1952) Chiri San (Submarine Chaser #
PC-704, 1950-1951) Imchin (Frigate,
1952-1974) Inchon
(LST) Kum Kang San (Submarine Chaser #
PC-702, 1950-1960) Munsan (LST, lost in
1950) Pak Tu San (Submarine Chaser # PC-701,
1949-1960) Sam Kak San (Submarine Chaser #
PC-703, 1950-1960) Tangyang (LST)
The
only ships in Korean waters when the war began were the LST's and the
PC-701. The rest arrived later.
As for PT boats, none.
I understand ROKN did have three or four 63-foot crash boats but didn't
use them much since these boats used high octane aviation gas, which was
in short supply at the time. Anyway, this may where "PT boats" comes
from.
