| Ed, I used the Babelfish translator and looked at the two pages listed by Ming Fan last night. While the results, as noted, come out in "Chinglish" with quite odd grammar and syntax, they do present some numbers of interest. I may have misinterpreted the odd translation, but it appears to say this: Chinese Losses 360,000 dead of which 173,000 killed in action 187,000 died of wounds 1,150,000 wounded 2,210,000 injured 2,500,000 medical casualties 290,000 POW ...which comes up to over 6.5 million. The other numbers don't make much sense, other than the Communist predeliction to report enemy losses as "annihilated" and friendly losses as "sacrificed" or "martyred". Anyone read Chinese directly who can sort this out? Cookie Sewell AMPS |
