I used the Babelfish translator and
looked at the two pages listed by Ming Fan last night.
While the
results, as noted, come out in "Chinglish" with quite odd grammar and
syntax, they do present some numbers of interest.
I may have
misinterpreted the odd translation, but it appears to say
this:
Chinese Losses
360,000 dead of
which 173,000 killed in
action 187,000 died of
wounds 1,150,000 wounded 2,210,000 injured 2,500,000 medical
casualties 290,000 POW
...which comes up to over 6.5 million.
The other numbers don't make much sense, other than the Communist
predeliction to report enemy losses as "annihilated" and friendly losses as
"sacrificed" or "martyred".
Anyone read Chinese directly who can
sort this out?
