Marc, don't mean to be contradictory, but I have an ulterior motive, the combat cars and infantry tanks were identical, the Cavalry just called them cars to get around the dicta that only Infantry could have tanks.  The medium was a separate development as Cookie stated.  And they weren't developed at Benning and Knox, but right here where I work, the Rock Island Arsenal under Ordnance direction, which leads me to my ulterior motive.  My next book is on US fighting vehicles between the wars 1919-1941.  If any one has access to photos from this period, could you please contact me off list.  And now to whip this puppy back to on-topic subjects, the Arsenal was where the emergency order for the effective 3.5 bazooka was processed and built and then shipped to Korea in record time to counter the T-34 threat.
