The chief of the KMAG met with GEN Bradley, then US Chief of staff, just
before the war broke out. Interestingly enough, he reported that the SK
troops were looking good and could stop a NK attack, which he downplayed.
Bradley left ! the meeting in Japan reassured.. Sadly, Bradley didn't know
that he was having sunshine blown up his fanny. The KMAG advisors on the
ground had quite a different opinion. The guys on the ground knew that the
SK troops were poorly or incompletely trained and under equipped.

And, more to the point, KMAG reported to the State Department and Bradley
was Defense Department, and never the twain shall meet. Even today, a VERY
successful tour for a military officer in a MAG might ensure something
greater than a truncated career!
In other words, DoD never saw most of what KMAG sent in. State didn't care
and wouldn't have forwarded it to those in care of the guys in charge of
the folks who would die in the War.
John2: note that US Department turf-wars are a bit different than those in
your favored Stalinist Soviet Union!
