Rhee Syngman ordered both men reinstated.  BTW, both Chae and Kim believed they could beat NKPA, the US military experts' contraire opinion notwithstanding.  In fact, the KMAG senior officers agreed with Chae and Kim that ROKA were superior to NKPA.

BTW, Chae was reinstated as ROK Army chief of staff
in early 1950 and, I think, Kim S.W., also returned to
Army in 1950.
