RE: Frostbite
The
danger comes from getting sweaty feet and body perspiring during the day and not
able to clean or change into dry socks and clothing. John
you must had some time to change or you were one of the lucky ones
who's did not sweat.
That is what
happened to my feet camping. It happened during the night trying to reach
camp. We were walking hard all day. It was not even snowing though
there was snow and ice. My feet were miserabe but warming my feet was worse and
up hurt so bad. I was more careful and walked out of the training area a
few days later.
One of the reason you walk is to prevent puddliing of
you fluids in the extremities. Meaning Hands, Feet and Head. Especially the hands and
feet. So long as yo have the top of your head, ears and neck covered you
will do OK.
While walking long distances you need to keep you hands
above the heart to prevent them from swelling and improve circulation. The feet
will litterly squish blood out of the feet while walking keeping them
warmer. It is hard to regulate your body under extreme conditions.
Cold
water is an interesting product very close to the
freezing point. Watch a
Metal Challace when you have ice and water. The Challace surface will freeze as
it draws and collects water molecules from the air.
Your
feet behave like in freezing weather.

Dan,
Thanks for
the info!
Korea was indeed very cold in the winter.
I had to wear
heavy clothes.
Somtimes, my feet were freezing even with the boot.
I
guess I was lucky I didn't get the frostbite.
