Gen. Bradley came to Tokyo on July 3, 1950 to review our parade down Ginza
Ave. on the Fourth of July. I was in GHQ at the time, in charge of receiving dry
cleaning at the post laundry. The morning he arrived a weapons carrier pulled up
at the loading dock, and dropped off a small bundle. The interpreter brought it
to me, and I found it was Gen. Bradley's dress uniform. I put on the coat. He
must have been a pretty big guy. I am 6' 2" tall, and the coat fitted me
perfectly. I strutted around in the jacket, bearing four stars, and a chest-full
of ribbons. The Japanese working in the dry cleaning department thought it was
hilarious. Two months later, I was in Korea. Earning a few ribbons of my own, as
an infantryman.
Didn't Gen. Bradley say the other way around? John2 --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.332 / Virus Database: 186 - Release Date: 3/6/2002 |
