Re: slang

Right, Paul -

I was there and then.  I wonder how many of the list members here were in Korea during the war?

"Niggers, Japs, Gooks and Jews" were outcasts in those years not only in the US military in Korea - but also in America (remember Ku Klux Klan?)

How many niggers, Japs, gooks or Jews on this list were teens or adults in Korea (or in the US) in the 50s?

I had a college classmate from Old Miss, who could not understand why the niggers were not happy with what they got?  The whites gave them jobs, foods, shelter, etc. - much more than what they would have had, if it had not been for the slave traders. Many whites did not see any racism in slavery at all.

After coming to the US, I attended the Brigham Young University, a Mormon college. Mormons in those days were racists - well, I am digressing too much here.

As far as racism in Korea, Gen. Ridgway, the UN Supreme Commander, said it all:

"The Chinese and Koreans are in appearance but a shade above the human beast. It is by the use of such human canaille that the Soviets are destroying our men while conserving their own."

chosin------for those who were not there in korea at that time do not
understand the language that was used.  i heard some words not fit for
this list as probably some of you had that were there.  words, slang
,language that is not political correct for now
was correct and used  at that time.   paw
