America's Wars
Don't know why, but all the commentary about people refusing to fight
because they look like the enemy bothers me. We are a nation of
immigrants who gave up our natives land to come here and compete in this
society. We have fought many different tribes of Indians; and countries
such as Germany, Austria, Britian (which included English, Scottish and
Irish soldiers), Mexico, China, Korea, Japan, Canada, Spain, Cuba,
Algeria (Barbary Pirates), Italy...in fact, the only major country we
haven't fought is Russia. That is if you don't count our minor
participation after the start of the Russian Revolution. We are, in
fact, everyone else's dumpster; and proud of it! That's why being an
American means being different (not necessarily better...just
different). Our ancestors gave up what they had, for what they hoped
for. Sounds like I'm preaching doesn't it? Sorry. I've always thought of
myself as an American, not a hyphenated conglomeration
(Scottish-Irish-English-German- American). During the Korean War we were
an immigrant bunch (look at the names of those who didn't come back)
performing what we thought were an honorable service for the Korean
people.
