I cannot find any report on U.S.Army occupation of
Korea late 1945
First part of 1945 I was in Phillipine Islands
training to invade Japan.
The war ended August 1945. I was in the 185th
Infantry Company B
We went by boat and train to Taegu, Korea We
were the first Americans
the Korean people had seen. The Japanese soldiers
were still thier at thier
posts and compound. Our squad went to each post and
relaced the Japanese
soldier with an American soldier. . As we were the
only American troops
there, we were given M.P. Helmets, M.P. Arm Bands
and 45 calber revolvers.
We worked with the Korean Police. At this time we
needed 95 points to
return to the States and be dis-charged. One of our
orders was to keep
American G.I. out of whore district. The madam
would come out and
say "American, American" and we went in and brought
them out.
The G.I. would say he had 95 points and was
shipping out next day. A
week later I would see him in chow line. Four of us
were put at a post
at the foot of a mountain guarding a large barn. .
we looked in the barn
and it was pacted with rice bowls. Every morning a
Jeep would come
to our post with a stove and make us eggs for
breakfast.
I left Korea Feb. 20, 1946 and was
dis-charged March 26, 1946
I have searched the internet and cannot find any
thing about this.
