My own experience is people of the next generation, some Americans in Korea
for example, used that word to mean simply "I'm better than you", to
Koreans, no longer anything to do with the NKPA. So that's how it's come to
be understood. Some of the other words thrown back and forth: reb, yank,
dogface, etc. haven't picked up really nasty meanings or have lost them if
they did. How people understand what you say matters I think, not just what
you mean to say.
