Re:
Were you a tanker, Mike? Once we had some tanks assigned to our infantry
company .... or maybe our company was assigned to the tanks. Anyway, we were
going up this winding mountain road, and several of the guys jumped on the
back of one of the tanks to get a ride up the mountain. Pretty soon, they
all jumped off again. I didn't know why they gave up their ride, but several
other guys, and I jumped up there. I happened to look over the side of the
tank, and saw I was looking into space. No part of the road was visible.
Just the side of the very steep hill. I nudged the guy next to me. He leaned
over, and looked down. I bailed off the tank a split second before he did.
When I was walking behind it again I noticed, for the first time, in places
the road was so narrow that part of the track would hang over the edge. That
tank driver had more guts than you could hang on a fence .... or maybe he
was just crazy.
