It rhymes with gook. The name applied to Asians, mostly enemies, by US forces. Every Army does this. Not approved officially though.  Any enemy is designated by a degrading name during a war.  I'm sure that Nixon, upon meeting Chou En Lai and Mao didn't compliment them for their state of modernization for being Chinks.

BTW, I worked for the Kuwaiti government after Desert Storm, as the only American with a team of Brits, designing information systems, and the Brits made the concept of the Ugly American seem like a gross misunderstanding. The names they used in our private meetings were not complimentary in any manner or means.
