Good, it was delayed before and I wondered if
it would really come out in August. I guess from your comment it's from
strictly a US perspective like the previous otherwise excellent work
of these authors, huh?

Subject: MIG Alley: Sabres vs. MiGs Over
Korea
I just
picked up a new book by Warren Thompson and David McLaren with the above
title. It covers the entire air war in Korea from the US side and has a wealth
of information and details in i which are truly amazing.
It also has
several appendices which have a great deal of pure "nuts and bolts" info. They
cover: Sabres that fought in Korea by serial number and subtype; F-86 losses
in Korea by date and official reason, as well as pilot at the time; F-86 kills
in Korea; US Korean War aces; and a bibliography. There are also a great
number of either pilots' reports or reminiscences from the pilots themselves
on individual missions.
My only wish is that the people who write on
this subject provide some sort of disclaimer when using terms like "Confirmed
Kills" which don't seem to track with reality. USAF overclaiming in Korea may
run as high as 32% (with a number of underclaims on probables late in the war
as well) and Soviet overclaims as high as 80%.
Still, it's nice to
finally have a "one-stop shopping" compendium on the air war from the side of
the 4th and 51st Fighter Wings.
