Re: "Luke the gook," "Gook" and "Bug out"

We had some ROK soldiers integrated into our outfit during the winter of 1950. Those poor guys came in wearing their field packs and carrying bulging barracks bags, containing all the stuff they had been issued earlier by the American Quartermaster Corp.. Including mosquito nets. A foot of snow on the ground, and these guys probably brought those blasted nets all the way up from Pusan! They had frequent inspections, and we were told that if any of their gear came up missing they would be severely punished. Many times, I saw an ROK officer or NCO chew out one of the enlisted men. At the end of the butt-chewing the superior would haul off and slap the guy's face. Strange ..........

I have forgotten how to start a new discussion.

John,

Gee, a man after my own heart from Massachusetts Power & Light! (I was a 98G2LVS when I came in back in 1968).

Same thing from Vietnam -- "Charlie" was pretty much standard but the other side was always "Marvin the ARVN."
