Re: AAA ground support
I think I mentioned a Marine unit that once drove off our pursuers with twin
40s and quad 50s. The machine guns were mounted on a jeep. The 40s were
probably mounted on a halftrack. They produced almost a constant stream of
fire. While one of the cannons was firing, the other one was loading. BOOM
.. BOOM ... BOOM ... BOOM. It was just about this fast. The North Koreans or
Chinese who were chasing us probably found this barrage very effective. They
didn't stick around to discuss the matter with us.
I am sorry I can't remember exactly whether the cannons were mounted on a
tank or a halftrack. The next time I go to war I will pay closer attention
to details.
