JSK might not know the Christian Biblical connection, "many are called but
few are chosen".  This is what led to the "Chosen Few", as a chance British
acquaintance of mine -- a veteran of the operation -- delightfully reminded
me.  He was quite glad to be alive and gave great credit for this to the
sacrifices of the US Marine Corps.

The same Biblical comment was a constant in the US "Deep Freeze" operations
of the era.  At least one ship would hoist a banner reading, "Many are
Cold, but Few are Frozen".  I understand, from a lot of interviews with the
Chosen Few, that this is really resented by the Marines.
