Marc; The article I read here in AZ, related that a farmer in England found a P-51 in a woods on his farm while looking for some lost cows.
The article went on to say it was the son of General Patton, a Lt., who was still in the cockpit of the fighter. The movie on Patton never mentioned a son in the Air Force, unless the son died after the father.
I cannot remember reading about the son of a general being missing over England at any time during WW II. I do know, since I have relatives in England, that there are crash site hunters who try to find missing aircraft from the war. They are still finding a few each year with the crew or in case of a fighter, the pilot. They have been using the last known radar fixes in the searches. One had been found in 1973 while I was on a visit to London.
